Lucy

"Can I touch her?", he asks about our new pet.

Photobucket

The smile on his face as he watches her move around our house is one of wonder, of happiness. He laughs and laughs and laughs. He chases her around the room, then runs the opposite way when her little brushes come for him.

She doesn't bark or meow. She hums.

And best of all, she doesn't shed on the rug. In fact, quite the opposite.

Meet Lucy. Our Roomba. We love her.

(note: Lucy was a Christmas gift from my mom---ok, FTC? The Roomba pictured is actually Lucy II. Lucy I was originally named Jeeves because I wanted a male robot. But, then Issa warned me that her first two Roombas, both named after men, died too soon, but her third, a woman, has lasted years. I quickly changed Jeeves to Lucy, but it was too late. His/her brushes stopped working shortly thereafter and he/she was replaced with Lucy II. I learned my lesson.)

Delurking here for just the Roomba! Any time a vacuum comes up in discussion around me I always advocate EVERYONE buying a Roomba IMMEDIATELY. I bought mine almost 2 years ago with wedding giftcards - and named him Fedora. Luckily it wasn't hit with the male name curse... he's still going strong!

Congrats! You'll never go back to a regular old vacuum!

She's beautiful. I'm afraid Toby would eat her though. Maybe someday..

I have always wanted one! Do they only go on wood and tile or do they do carpet too? Guess I better Google it, huh?! :)

I also got a roomba for xmas and am LOVING IT! In answer to Melani's question, mine goes easily from ceramic tile, to hardwood, and over the little throw rugs I have in my kitchen. It occasionally gets stuck but overall I have been very pleased and absolutely love it! I hear there are roombas that will wash your floor as well as sweep! Awesome!

Enjoy! We love our Rosie. I should get commission from talking about irobot; Their customer service is wonderful and they still send me replacement parts (for free!) two years later.

I swear someone should start a blog about naming Roombas. I don't know any other household appliance that gets a name, do you? I've heard some of the best recently: Shirley McClean, Barack Oroomba, etc.

Ooo. I love my roomba and it's lasted for years. It hasn't been named though.

So is she loose, this Lucy of yours? Does she, you know, do others? If so, can she come to my house?

I wanted to tell you that Lucy one still may be Jeeves, but it seemed like a harsh lesson. Plus, I could have been wrong.

Sorry friend. :)

Hmmmm, I've been considering a roomba. I think my dog might try to eat it.
