Fairly Odd Mother

Frantically waving my magic wand to make wishes come true.

One down

In the wee hours of this morning, Fairly Odd Father kissed me goodbye and left for work. From there, he will hop on a plane to go see his sister and this little munchkin.

Lucky duck.

So, it'll be me and the rugrats for the next five days. This separation is nothing compared to what some of you endure, but it isn't all that common here. Even with his crazy work and school schedule, I can usually count on him walking through the door for dinner and to help at bedtime.

Wish me luck and sanity and hope that I don't run out of coffee.

Fare thee well. My sympathy for the single state of being in the immediate future.

5 - 8 p.m. were the hardest when I would do the solo days/nights. I could totally wing-it during the day but the dinner to bed hours were the hardest.

Plan something to keep them out of your sight during those times and you'll be great. Like Puzzles - but take away a piece or two so they can never finish them. That always keeps them busy. Oh, that's cruel? Sorry. HA HA HA!!!

Good Luck.

You can do it. If I can do it anyone can do it, but feel free to scream this way if you need to vent. Because five days? Yeah, no fun.

My husband just got back from 3 days away. I have to say it was easier this time than any of the others, and I think I figured out why: Completely Lowered Expectations. My only goal was to keep them fed and alive. If I had to feed them pasta at every meal and rely on 10 hours of Sprout tv, then fine. Absolutely no super-mom goals. No cleaning, no errands, and minimal bathing.

Usually I set all these stupid goals when he's gone. I'll redo our bedroom! and knit matching sweaters for everyone! and clean the whole house from top to bottom! Not this time. And strangely, with this new Minimal Effort Mom thing going on, I was way more relaxed and ended up accomplishing more and being a better mom. Even my husband said it must have gone well, because I didn't sound like I was about to twist off when he'd call.

So, my advice to you: jammies, pizza, and a stack of movies. The world won't come to an end if you spend a few days hibernating. Good luck, dude. I feel your pain.

Deb, I think I love you. Your ideas (as is SS's plan to hide a puzzle piece) are genius.

Thanks, guys. So far, 5 hours into this, and I'm doing ok.

My husband and I both work from home so we are rarely apart. I think I'd actually enjoy if he were gone for 3 days Maybe? ;)
But, seriously, I hope the next few days go well.

I don't know what I'd do if my hubby did handle bedtimes, so I know how you feel. Best of luck!
