Are You There God? It's Me, Mama (with all due respect to Ms. Blume).

Is it possible for a six year old to get her period? Because, if not, I really cannot explain the mood swings, crying jags and recent neediness of my daughter.

There is no telling what will set her off. A teeny, tiny scratch? Her grandmother being sweet with her sister? A missed bedtime story?

All of these things qualify as huge, horrible slights against her and require many, many hugs to rectify.

If puberty is harder than this, I may need to rethink this whole "Parenting of Girls" thing. I will have my own mood swings and hot flashes to contend with in a few years.

Ummm, yeah I am familiar with this.... I need to do some reading on Capricorns... maybe its in their astrological sign!

Just wait, if you are "lucky" all three of you will be on the same cycle..... same PMS too!

I have to tell you...for a long time, I mourned the girls I would never had. I felt so sad for all the things we would not do together. But you know....I think that the universe knew it was doing by giving me boys. I remember what *I* was like as an adolescent, and I doubt that I could tolerate myself.

If it's any consolation, I think girls stay closer to their mothers than boys. Once a boy finds a wife...well...Mommy isn't really necessary anymore.

Ack!!! No, don't say that about boys! I plan to move in with my son and his someday-wife! Or, maybe just move next door! I'm sure she won't mind. . .

My boys and their wives are going to live with me. My husband and I will build a nice in-law apartment for ourselves and we can all have dinner together every day. I think my four year old son has PMS now that I think about it. The whining!

My girl is younger, but my 6.5 year old boy is all full of attitude and hormones lately. I think it must be something about the age. I've been hearing it from a lot of other parents too.

We've even had to resort to a reward chart for the first time in years. Sigh...

FOM - you described my almost 6 year old to a T. One recent night, she woke up crying. Thinking something was wrong,I went t oher. Turns out nothing was wrong - apparently she was happy and really liked a particular stuffed animal and for some reason, it made her cry.

It seems like the hormones start racing in those tiny bodies!

Is she nearer to seven than six right now? Seven is a MOODY age for little kids - their bodies get flooded by adult hormones for the first time and they DO go through a little mini-adolescence. The Girl was this weepy, moody wreck all last year.
The good news, of course, is that by 8, they're used to it.

Yes! She is closer to 7---will be seven in early January. . .ok, I feel better that maybe this is all hormonal and will pass (in a year. . .lovely!).

Good Luck! We've survived the 7 and 8 year old hormones and now the 9.5 hormones are in FULL RAGE...who sobs like someone killed their puppy just because they can't stay up and watch Zoey 101 AFTER their bedtime on a school night? Of course this should come as no surprise since she's Drama Queen on my blog LOL... of course the Mother of the Year in me yelled "SUCK IT UP AND GO TO BED!!" muahahahaha

Thank you, too, for stopping by my blog! I am so happy to have you!

Judy Blume was a god to me as a kid. I loved her, loved her, loved her. When I was in 6th grade, I wrapped brown paper around her book Wifey and read it---right under my parents' noses! Oh, how I loved her.

Just last week, my child's 2nd grade teacher handed out a suggested reading list for 2nd grade readers and I could NOT believe my eyes, but there was no Judy Blume. Not a one! how is any respectable 2nd grader to survive without reading her? I tell ya!

Oh and yes, my 7 year old, yep, she's got her period too and I'm telling you, she is seriously PMS! her mood swings put my worst to shame!
