Mother's Day: With or without the kids?

What camp are you in?

Are you among the moms who want to spend Mother's Day surrounded by their kids, basking in their undivided attention?

Or are you one of those who take their Mother's Day "get out of dodge" pass for some (or all) of the day? After breakfast in bed, of course.

Guess which group I'm in? (apparently, so is my sister who is coming to pick me up in a few minutes for a little shopping time sans enfants.)

No matter how you spend your day, Happy Mother's Day to you all!

For those of us who spend almost every single day surrounded by our children and basking (if that is the proper word) in their undivided attention, this is a no-brainer. I'll meet you at IKEA...

I would settle for day where I didn't have to fold laundry or force someone to brush his teeth. I'm a simple person. Or a simpleton. One or the other.

In general, I resent the expectation of Mother's Day...breakfast in bed, gifts, perfume, jewelry, etc. I love being a mom and like to spend this day with my kids. We usually make plans to do something we enjoy together. I don't care if they make me a card or get me a gift. In fact, I'd prefer they didn't. Spending time with the people you love is the best gift ever.

I had a little of both. I was out to lunch and bridesmaid dress shopping with my mom and sister (though I would have preferred sleeping in). Then an evening of leftovers and several games of Mah Jong with just us. They didn't even let me win! My favorite part of the day is the kids cuddling in bed with me in the morning and presenting their homemade cards. I LOVE homemade cards. Happy Mother's Day!

I go with the assumption I'll be with my children, however I don't plan on turning my brain on to make any of the daily decisions (what are we eating? what can we do we're bored? where are my sneakers? can we watch TV? can I have a snack?) nor will I partake in the refereeing that keeps them from killing each other. So in other words, be seen and not heard is a lovely Mother's Day mantra :) Hope you had a great day.

I had a half day to myself and then the guilt got the best of me so I joined my husband and the kids in the afternoon. I had to fight very, very hard against the urge to just go home to my quiet house and my DVR.

I've done both. This year, I was sick, so I was forced to stay in bed and take TV as needed, while they were within earshot. Until I closed the door.

I am a firm believer in being with the children, but any disciplinary tactics have to be employed by someone other than me.

Also? Boy sits on someone else's lap at the restaurant/wherever while I'm eating.

I shifted. I used to be the, I'd like a day too myself person. Now? Since I only have my kids half the time, I loved spending the entire day with them.

It depends: what kids are we talking about?

Not to be a debbie downer but some of us don't have a mother to spend the day with, you know short of hanging out at the grave stone. Nor do I have a sister or grandmother. So..... my choices are somewhat limited. Spend the day alone missing what I once had, or with my beautiful children telling me they love me and are thankful to have me. I'll take the latter.
Just sayin.
