Busy, busy, busy. . .

The 12 Things at Christmas that have kept me from blogging this month:

1. Daily Advent Calendar is kicking my ass.

2. We're busy scrambling for candy thrown by cute little scouts.

Yes, even though we mailed all our Halloween candy away last month, we now have enough to get us through the long, cold winter.

3. Grandparents on both sides who ask me to shop for the kids. This is great in that I do love having control over what toys come into the house, but my basement looks like a haunted house, with sheets covering piles of hidden treats.

4. Annual Christmas target practice.

5. 135 Christmas cards. You know that line in this song where he says "I don't even KNOW half of these people?". Kind of like that.

6. Sinterklaas, which has one of the scariest Christmas stories ever. If you don't behave, he hits you with a stick and shoves you into his sack. Don't believe me? Well, David Sedaris says it's so.

Here, the children are relieved that there will be no stick-hitting/sack-stuffing:

7. Visiting local New England holiday landmarks, being sure to cover all the holiday religions: Christian, Jewish and old-fashioned Santa.

8. Meeting my niece for the first time and seeing my beloved sister-in-law who are up from Florida for the week. I'm getting baby time, y'all.

9. Making gingerbread men. I swear to you, the kids did this one all by themselves. Should I be worried?

10. Working like a busy little elf on cool product reviews and helping to get another website back into flight.

11. Wondering how the kids managed to make the creepiest looking snowman ever.

12. Taking up a new instrument. Badly.

Hope you are all having a rocking December too!

Clearly not as rocking as your December is. Mind if I rent you out to do awesome things with my kids next year?

You lose all your rocker street cred playing drums with fluffy slippers. Just sayin'.

Sounds like the best kind of busy. :)
And is it the angle or is that just one big, honkin' Menorah?

I have to say that after looking at the cookies, the target practice, and the snow man, perhaps you DO have something to worry about. LOL - just joking, of course, but that is hilarious. Happy December to you!

Merry, Merry, Merry. We miss you and will see about getting together after the holidays...if you promise the kids won't bring any of those gingerbread cookies with them. K? Thanks.

I don't have kids, but camp Fairly Odd Mother sounds like fun....sign me up. btw - I don't think it's the slippers keeping you from having street cred - think it's the slippers/teddy bear combo holding you back.

My you've been a busy bee! LOL at the gingerbread man. I love it :)

And I am totally sporting the same "Shine" fuzzy slippers at home!

Happy Holidays to you and yours.

perhaps if your kids didn't have an "annual target practice" they wouldn't be inspired to make wounded gingerbread men cookies. You spread so much love, why encourage violence? Holidays + Peace = Joy

Hi Lorayne, you haven't seen what it's like in the checkout lines here---the kids need to be prepared for anything.

(and really? the gun photo is from our trip to see Santa at Bass Pro Shops, the good ol' boy haven for camo and beef jerky---my kids couldn't hit a target if they tried-- and the cookies are made with ABC cookie cutters of "already been chewed" gingerbread men with missing limbs. I think it's more like love+joy+humor=Christmas. I figure I can have peace when the kids move out).

well, they're adorable regardless. And you're an amazing mom!! You're so right.. Sorry I was so negative.. I follow your blog and was confused to the whole shooting range scene.. seemed very out of place. Happy and healthy holidays to all.

Thanks Lorayne, no problem! They've made loads of sweet crafts and done lots of traditional Christmasy things like sing at a nursing home and make snow angels, but I was definitely pulling the photos that were a little funnier/twisted (like that snowman---that's what happens when you make one after a 1-inch snowfall and then it starts to melt---very Tim Burton-esque, I think). There will be no Fairly Odd Hunting series in our future! Happy Holidays!
