Where in the World am I?

I'm turning Japanese over on New England Mamas this morning. . .

And thank you to everyone who has commented with encouragement, good wishes and goofiness lately. Things are looking up: D's fever is starting to fade, the sun is out and April is just over the bend.

Now, a request: we are planning a trip to Disney World in early September. I'm already all over the internets but would love more personal recommendations, advice, tips, etc. Other than the Magic Kingdom, SeaWorld and Epcot, I've never been to any of the other parks. I'll be with my husband, my three kids (who will be 4, 5 & 7 when we travel) and possibly my mom.

Gina said...: Walt Disney World is my favorite place! We're going again in October. Check out www.intercot.com They have info on the parks, resorts, dining, etc. Tons of ideas and tips. Plus message boards which will answer every question you could think of. Also - if you plan on doing any sit-down or character meals - you must call and get reservations right away. You can make them 180 days out and they fill up QUICK.; 8:21 AM
Moments Of Mom said...: Animal Kingdom was the best! Its relaxed, has great rides even you mom will enjoy. The photo opps are phenomenal!

And I think Universal was a close second though I am not sure about their kiddie rides.

Have a blast. We are waiting until the newest edition gets bigger.

Oh, and in the spirit of Homeschooling, Epcot has a TON of learning zones for kids belly and jilly's age.; 9:27 AM
Kate said...: You've seen my blog, so you got both my opinions and Willem's for the same low price. I wouldn't have done a whole lot differently for our short trip, but our long trip - in 5 or 6 years - will involve a lot more planning and preparation. We've done the just-stick-our-toes-in test trip, and the bigger trip will have more experience with *our kids* specifically, instead of guessing how to handle the parks... it's hard for me to put into words, but I think the biggest thing about preparation is knowing your own travel companions and self, rather than really knowing the park all that well.; 9:50 AM
Melissa said...: My brother and sister just went there for fun and they swam with Manatees and loved it! Said it was great and they are sooo sweet and gentle! I don't know if all your kids are able to do that but definently soemthing to look into :)I know I would want to do it :); 1:37 PM

Anonymous said...: Cheap thrills-In Downtown Disney there is a lego store. Outside is a place to play with legos and some of the most amazing sculpture. That's all free, unless you want to buy some legos. Around the corner within easy walking distance is McDonalds, probably the only cheap food around. For lots of inside info, a look at the menues, up to date info etc. go to allears.net which is better than any of the guidebooks I bought. Make sure to make reservations for the good restaraunts or character dining asap-you can all early in the AM the morning of the 90th. day before your trip. And the dinosaur ride in Animal Kingdom is very scary while the Finding Nemo show is incredible.I was there in November with my 8 year old granddaughter and bought the meal plan. It was a great deal then-not as good now but still cheaper than paying for meals individually.; 4:12 PM
Anonymous said...: Well, there's always "sharon-land" which is always open and always a fun time......Busch Gardens is fun as well - lots of rides for the kiddies, a decent zoo and beer for the adults - which is sadly lacking at the Kingdom. I have a couple of books called "one tank trips" for FL which I'll dig up as well which will help you find the unusual attractions in case disney gets a bit too much.; 7:56 PM

For the love of God, Use the fast passes. They will make your life much, much easier.

Consider spending mornings in the parks, afternoons naping/swimming then go back to the parks around dinner.

Depending on how long you are going for and when you'll take another trip back, you might want to pick 2 of the main parks and see everything they have to offer and not try to cram it all in. My last trip to Disney I could have used 2 full days at epcot alone. Without afternoon naps.; 1:15 PM
Anonymous said...: We live just a couple of hours away from Disney - and so we have been there a few too many times. My kids didn't like Epcot as well as the Magic Kingdom until they were around 8 or so (maybe they weren't little Einsteins... oh well). We went when they were little but they were all about the Magic Kingdom. They also loved Animal Kingdom.

For dinner one night, try the Medieval Times. Those have always been huge hits for the kids.

Carry a back pack with treats and juice boxes. It always helped my kids with waiting in lines.; 5:34 AM
